Love the Luxe Guide
When I lived in Asia, I always grabbed a copy of the Luxe guide to get me to the best spots in town. They are just terrific, witty, to the point and fit in a tiny purse too!

Butternut squash pie with spice whipped cream
I stumbled upon MILK EGGS CHOCOLATE and was so inspired by the recipes and gorgeous photos. She is also the creator of the lovely blog, unruly things. I think I am going to try the pie for Thanksgiving. Here is a link to the recipe. Bon Apetit!

Irish Book Feature
I have two wonderful books to recommend: Alphie McCourt's A Long Stone's Throw (full disclosure, Alphie is my husband's uncle), he just came out with his first novel, it is a great read, very witty. And at his book reading last week, I met the fabulous Mary Pat Kelly, who also has a book out (February 9), entitled, Gallway Bay. So, if you want to get some Irish reading in, these are the two must haves for 09!
The youngest of the McCourt brothers, after Frank, Malachy and Michael, Alphie McCourt grew up in Limerick, Ireland and immigrated to the U.S. in 1959. He has lived in Canada, Dublin, Ireland, and in California and has spent a good part of his life in the restaurant and bar business. His pieces have appeared in The Washington Post, The Villager (New York), The Limerick Leader and in Icons Magazine.
Mary Pat Kelly is an award-winning author and filmmaker:
To Live for Ireland (PBS); Special Intentions; Good To Go: The Rescue of Scott O’Grady from Bosnia; Martin Scorsese: The First Decade; Martin Scorsese: A Journey; Home Away From Home: The Yanks in Ireland; Proudly We Served: The Men of the USS Mason, and the feature film, Proud. Mary Pat Kelly has served as an associate producer on Good Morning America and on Saturday Night Live.

Above the clouds
I used to travel a lot more than what I do now. Straight across the vast Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and even over the North Pole. I always marveled at how flying allowed us to see above the clouds. These lovely pics from the blog MY FUNNY EYE really capture the magic of flying.

Light me up
Netherlands designer Pieke Bergmans has created a magical object from sand and thin air. As she says, "No two people are the same, and neither are two of the hairs that grow on your head."
I love the optical illusion of this lamp. Go to Pieke Bergmans' site and give yourself a treat.

It's all in the bag!
My sister and her business partner, Amy have been designing gorgeous handbags since they met in Bangkok over four years ago. My sister and her family are now back in the Bay Area and Amy and her family have moved to Marseille. Despite the distance they still continue to produce top quality, stunning handbags. I'm so proud of both of them!! And my handbag has arrived, isn't it lovely!
